1:05pm

I snuck in about an hour's nap earlier.
Now I'm working on some homemade rolls.
Got the dough rising in the pan at the moment
then will take out, divide up into 24 rolls,
let rise again then bake.

NO KNEAD CAKE MIX ROLLS

2 packages granulated yeast

2 cups warm water

1 box white Jiffy cake mix
(or half a box of Pillsbury or Betty Crocker cake mix-
can use white, butter or yellow cake mix)

1 teaspoon salt

4 cups all-purpose flour or more

Mix yeast and water. Leave set long enough for yeast to dissolve.

Add remaining ingredients. Mix. Cover bowl with a towel and let rise to double.

Punch dough down. Cut out and roll into 24 balls and place in large, greased

casserole dish. Cover with towel and let rise to double again.

Bake at 325 degrees F for 20 minutes. Butter tops when removed from oven.

Sherry's Hint-

You could also put these in greased muffin/cupcake tins instead
of a casserole dish if you don't want the pull apart kind.

--------------------------------------------------------

1:25pm

While I am waiting on my dough to rise
I decided to get some fish fillets
($1.50 for 1 1/2 pkgs)
marinating in teriyaki ($1.00) for supper.
Tonight I'll bread them up and bake in the oven.
Serve with some teriyaki stir-fry veggies. ($1.50)

Total cost to make- $4.00
Serves 6 @ .67 cents a serving

I got the roll dough with a warm towel
over top it.

Here are the rolls out of the oven.

7:45am

I had a question regarding the Kroger Thank You Bonus
and how it worked. If you look at the bottom of your
Kroger receipts it says-

Shop at Kroger between 10/16/11 - 11/27/11.

For every $100 you spend during this period
you will receive a $10 Holiday Thank You Bonus
to spend at Kroger Marketplace.
Maximum credit it $200.

You will receive this bonus on your Kroger Plus Card.

Your Kroger Thank You Bonus is only good on
furniture, home decor, bed & bath, office & school supplies,
housewares, toys and storage.

You must redeem this bonus at Kroger Marketplace
between 12/1 and 12/4/11.

You cannot use your bonus on these items-
gift cards, gift card mall, electronics,
food, candy, health & beauty aids,
services, fragrances, Fred Meyer Jewelry or fuel.

And it should tell you how much you have spent
so far to get an idea of how many $10 bonuses you get.

---------------------------------------------------------

I'm still not having much luck. Feel like Midas
where everything I touch turns to gold and is useless.
Not sure if I didn't cook my pie long enough yesterday
or what but today I served up a slice and it was
a little gooey inside. I added flour to the filling
when making it which should have thickened it up.
Now I'm worried about taking the other pie
to my brothers for Thanksgiving. I still have
the peaches n cream dessert to make. I've made that
many times before so it shouldn't be a disaster.

----------------------------------------------------

12:00pm

When do you get to a point that you feel like
bawling your eyes out???
I'm am that close if one more thing goes wrong.

I went down to the basement to start my usual
Sunday laundry. Got a load going in the washer
and went to see if I had clothes in the dryer.
Yeah, I sometimes get forgetful and leave a load
in there. The clothes in it were dry.
I noticed the dryer light wasn't on.
I shut the door and tried to turn the dryer on,
nothing. Had Tony come down and check it out.
We flipped the breaker, checked the cord,
still nothing. What the hell!!
I have not noticed any problems with my dryer
before this to just have it up and not work.
I'm hoping and praying that Tony can figure it out.
I can't have no dryer with all the laundry that
we go through a week. I'm already pinching every
penny we have at the moment.
It's a Maytag dryer, you know those kind that
have the Maytag repair man sitting around in the commercials
because they don't break down. HA HA HA.

----------------------------------------------------

1:00pm

For a late lunch I am making lasagna.

1 pkg no boil lasagna noodles- free from Tony's work
1 jar spaghetti sauce- $1.00 with coupon & sales
leftover V8 juice- free from Tony's work
ground sausage- $1.00 from Aldis
1 pkg shredded mozarella cheese- free from shopping spree

Total cost for me to make $2.00

---------------------------------------------------

1:10pm

I got wet laundry piling up in clothes baskets.
I'm going to take about 3 or so loads down
to mom's to dry them in her dryer.
Tony just left to head to his work to find
his electrical testers and stuff so he
can try and see what's wrong with the dryer.

At the moment I am doing a search online to
see if I can figure out what the problem may be.

This sounds like my problem-
Maytag Elec Dryer no power

Places to find appliance parts-

Columbus Appliance & Parts
2686 Westerville Road, Columbus, OH 43224-4471
(614) 263-0908

They are near Weber and Westerville Rds.

Or you could try

Dayco Appliance Parts
(614) 262-6446
620 E Weber Rd
Columbus, OH 43211

By checking online I think parts
for a thermal fuse and hi limit thermostat
kit will run $25 to $30 for parts.

--------------------------------------------------------

3:45pm

Well the luck sure ain't getting any better
around here. Tony's brother is in the hospital.
I think I told y'all he was the one who just got
married back in June? In the past month or so
his wife left him for someone else and took the kids.
Tony's mom just called not long ago
to say his brother is in the hospital
for overdosing on something trying to commit suicide.
I think we need all the prayers we can get at
the moment for ourselves and Tony's family.
I just feel like we've had this big, black
cloud hovering over our heads for too long.
We don't need this especially after just
attending a funeral showing for one of Tony's
family members 10 days ago.

----------------------------------------------------

7:15pm

Having a late supper since we had a late lunch.
Grilled cheese sandwiches with chicken noodle soup.

Tony's buddy from work stopped by for a few.
He's the man on call this past week.
He was saying that he knew someone with
a washer and dryer that we could possibly have.
While that's super nice and all I'd really
like to see if we could get our dryer fixed first
before trying to move a dryer up and down the
stairs. Hurts my back just thinking about it.
I'm sure with studying dryer repair online
and watching a few videos I should be able
to figure out how to repair it.

Almost got about 4 loads of laundry done.
Just waiting on the last two at mom's.
I was telling mom we haven't had the heat on today.
She couldn't believe it. I have the thermostat
usually set at around 71 degrees. It felt warm
in here (74 degrees) and I lowered the thermostat to 68
and opened up 2 windows. The temperature dropped to and
stayed at 72 degrees all day in here.
I finally closed up all the windows and
the temperature jumped back up to 74 degrees.
I don't have ovens, dryers or anything of the sort
going.

I'm glad that we've been having a pretty decent
November. I got the gas bill the other day and
it was $49. Wouldn't it be nice if it stayed
that way all Winter long! I think last months
bill was $32 so it did go up a little in the
last month probably due to some very cool mornings.

We aren't on the budget nor have we ever been on it.
I figure that the cost of heat goes up in the
Winter while the cost of our electric goes down.
And in the Summer it's vice versa.
So it all evens out in the end.

-----------------------------------------------------

Well I heard some good news.
Even though I have a brother-in-law
in the hospital from trying to commit suicide
from his marriage, I just read that my cousin
asked his girlfriend to marry him and she said yes!
Maybe, just maybe, things will start looking up!

-----------------------------------------------------

Ok, who has ever seen or heard of a cat who like
to drink pop? This cat of ours sure does!
It doesn't matter if it's orange, cola or citrus flavored.
Gotta watch leaving any glasses sitting around here
or he'll try to get a drink. I think he would
drink out of the straw if he could!
I know the video is dark, you'll have that
in the evening.

----------------------------------------------------

I saw this and thought it was cute.

11-19-11

2:05pm

Just got done getting 2 Dutch Apple Pies made
and put into the oven. I doubled the recipe
for the crust and filling. While I had enough
to do 2 pies the reason I did 2 was so that
we could sample one to see how it turned out
before taking the other one to my brothers.
My brother's pie will be stored in the
freezer til Thanksgiving. One less thing
to make :0)

The crust-
has flour, brown sugar, oatmeal, butter & cinnamon
in it. While I reserved some of this for the topping
on the pie, I added crushed walnuts to the
crumb topping also, but not in the crust.

The pie crusts after filling.

And the pies after getting their crumb topping
and before going into the oven.

----------------------------------------------------------

2:15pm

Went to the flea market this morning.
Didn't buy much, maybe a few matchbox cars
and some guy gave the kids a free nerf gun.

We didn't end up going to the church dinner
and had some leftover pot pies and hot dogs
for lunch.

I was wanting to get the rolls made today
but not sure if I will. Starting to wear
down already. Might do that tomorrow.

-----------------------------------------------------

2:55pm

Here's the eggs I've been pickling in the fridge.
We tested one today and they are pinkish red
through to almost the yolk. Wondering if I should
just slice these in half and leave them that
way instead of deviling them. The reason I say
that is because the eggs already have the pickling
flavor with vinegar, seasonings and
I also poured in some leftover banana pepper juice
into the jars. To add the deviled egg mixture
on top of the pickling mixture might be too much.
But I think with just slicing these in half
and putting every other egg, a deviled egg
then a pickled egg, on a dish would still
give it a nice look.
Mom suggested I could put these on a large plate
and used shredded cabbage or cabbage leaves on the plate then
place the eggs on the cabbage. The cabbage
would hold them in place and make them
look nice all at the same time.

10:00am

Tony returned to work today. The only thing he complained
about was his back was still hurting him.
Not sure what was wrong with him yesterday.
With the symptoms he had I kept checking
his legs where he has gotten cellulitis.
I didn't see any red marks so ruled that out.

We think it might of been a diabetic episode
of some sort. Body aches, shivering, muscle spasms,
throwing up. I checked him several times and
with someone that had shivers like he did you
would of thought there was a fever to accompany it.
He didn't feel hot at all. He only had them during
the one time during the night before.

I woke up feeling blah. Felt like I could have slept
all day and had a queasy feeling to the stomach.
My legs and back have been throbbing and aching.
I'm chalking it all up to almost the girly time.
I hope so because I don't want or need to be sick
right before Thanksgiving!
We were thinking about going to the flea market
tomorrow morning, the last day for this year.
Then around 1:00pm mom's church is having a potluck
dinner.

It sure is BRRR outside! The news said this is the
coldest day since March. The truck said it was
24 degrees out this morning at 6:40am when
taking one child to the bus stop.
That's a heck of a wake up call hitting the cold
air that early, ahhhh!

I know it's only 10am but I think I'm ready to go
lay back down and get some more rest.
Need some energy this evening to start working
on 2 apple pies. For supper I was thinking
about making some turkey pot pies.
Then if I feel energetic I'll make up
the homemade rolls for Thanksgiving and freeze them.
If not I'll do it sometime this weekend.

Free sample of Seattle's Best Coffee on Facebook.

Just click that you have to work on Black Friday.
You will also get a printable $2.00 off coupon.

I'm loving all these free coffee samples.
Coffee is so expensive anymore.
I'm not a coffee drinker but my hubby is so
always keeping an eye out for the best deals.
So far Aldis is the cheapest at $5.45 or so for
a large can.

Meijer ad preview for week of 11-20.

I'm limiting my shopping trips at the moment.
Only going to get basic things, things
that I really need, or things for Christmas
or Christmas dinner.

$1.50 printable coupon for I Can't Believe It's Not Butter all purpose sticks.

.55 cents ($1.10 doubled) Hillshire cocktail weenies.
They are $2.50 next week at Meijers
so $1.40 each with above coupon.
Great for Christmas appetizers.
For Christmas dinner I like to do a lot of finger
foods from sandwiches to snack trays
with lunch meats, cheeses, chips, dip, cheese.
Earlier this year I picked up a bunch
of Summer sausage at Kroger for $1.00 each.
I still have a couple left in the freezer.
I plan on slicing one of those up and adding
it to my meat and cheese tray.

----------------------------------------------------

4:45pm

Got 4 homemade turkey pot pies in the oven.
I have enough ingredients to make 8 of them.
I made up this recipe with ingredients I had on hand.

I used the No Roll Pie crust found HERE. Minus the sugar.

Press into mini pie pans or a regular or jumbo cupcake pan.

In a bowl I added-

about 1.5 cups of leftover turkey with celery & onions,
2 potatoes diced up with skins (cooked ahead of time),
a handful of baby carrots sliced (cooked ahead of time),
a can of Campbells chicken gravy,
plus seasonings like onion powder, salt & pepper.

Next I took a can of Kroger biscuits
and rolled out each biscuit (with the gravy can)
large enough to fit over each pot pie.
I poked 4 little holes on top with a knife
then spritzed the tops with butter cooking spray.

Bake 350 degrees for 40 minutes.

This was pretty cheap to make considering most
ingredients were leftovers from other meals.

-biscuits .50 cents a can
-chicken gravy free
-leftover turkey free
-leftover carrots free
-2 potatoes free
-flour free
-oil free
-seasonings .05 cents

So .55 cents to make 8 turkey potpies.

I was given the thumbs up by everyone with my recipe.
I had even had suggestions to do these pot pies
in the future-
ham & potato,
beef & veggie.

These would be great to make up ahead of time
and store in the freezer.

UPS man just showed up at the front door
around 5:30pm delivering the mp3 players
I got from Dollar General. There's 2 gifts
I don't have to worry about.

Now since these mp3 players have video on them
I'm trying to learn how to download videos
from youtube onto them.

------------------------------------------------

7:30pm

As we were leaving the checkout lane at Kroger
an announcer came over the intercom and said
that they would be giving away free vegetable
peelers at the deli/bakery. I had Tony
take the groceries to the truck and I went to check it
out. I knew that there was going to be some
person talking and trying to sell you something
first in order to get the peeler. So I waited
patiently to get the so called $5 veggie peeler.
Yeah right, not even sure I'd give $1 for it at
a Dollar store, but hey it was free.
Just like this one HERE.

I did find some bags of teriyaki veggies
on clearance. Was $2.89 paid $1.50.
I got 2 bags.
This is like the stuff I get from Aldis
which can be around $3 to $4 a bag.

I also had to stop by the smoke shop
and get another bag of tobacco.
It went up .50 cents to $15.99 a pound for
Southern Steel brand. Criss cross went up
also to $17.99 a pound.
I had a coupon for .50 cents off
a box of filters ($2.99) so it all came out the
same as last time. It all came to just under $20.
I already have one box of filters I didn't use
from the last time around.
So it costs about $23 or so for 2 weeks worth of smokes
by making my own. That's $1.23 a pack.
(20 packs or more, I didn't exactly
keep track of how much the last bag made)
$100+ if I'd of bought 2 cartons of Dorals from Speedway
for 2 weeks at $5.05 a pack!

--------------------------------------------------

Nestle Tollhouse is having a contest.
You could win $1000 to $5000!
To find out the rules click HERE.

Ok, why the heck not, lol. I've placed in the
top 10 with one of their Halloween cookie contests :0)
I think I know what to enter and it has already
taken 3rd place in another recipe contest.
Got the idea from looking at some of the
entries already submitted.
Man, any extra money right now sounds so good.

I just found out today our health insurance is
going up. Now it's going to be about
$476 a month. How much longer can we afford
health care at the rising cost of insurance???
If we add in life insurance for myself
it costs another $28 so we'd be looking at
over $500 a month!
Everyone in my family has life insurance
except me and at this rate I can't afford to die
nor can I afford to live. Screwed either way huh.
Even with insurance at ridiculous rates
it still costs a fortune out of pocket
at doctor's visits and hospitals. When you are paying
$5712 a year you'd think you'd get a break somewhere
with costs. How in the world does Obama think he
can try and pass a law that states everyone should have
some type of health insurance. We're struggling
now as it is. And by we, I mean most of the US
with the economy we are in. What about people who are working
only part time or is getting minimum wage.
This is absolutely crazy!!!

Ok, going back to bed now, it's 1:45am.
Some nights I fall asleep and my brain
has a hard time shutting down and I wake
back up for about an hour or so.
7:00am is going to come pretty darn fast.
Supposed to go to the flea market,
Tony's friend in Groveport after that
then off to a potluck dinner at mom's church by 1:00pm.
Yup, sounds like I'll be raring to go.
Now where did I put those toothpicks???
Throw in some throbbing legs and an aching back
and a little pms and let the party begin!

7:00am

Not having a very good week!
Between burning myself with boiling water,
my pickled eggs not peeling right and looking like a disaster,
kids having runny noses,
Jonathan complaining of his ear hurting &
me not feeling the greatest,
now hubby woke up early this morning
shivering, having back spasms, charlie horses,
and vomiting, I wonder what is next??!!

I don't like this time of year. Too many
sickies going around. Can't imagine having
any more doctor bills at the moment. Already
struggling to keep head above water as it is.

Just checked a Kroger receipt I got yesterday
when I picked up the last couple of items
needed to make things for Thanksgiving dinner.
I figured I'd get them now before the lines

people getting things at the last minute.
Plus I am able to get a start on a couple
things by making them ahead of time.

Anyways, back to the receipt, $22 more
to spend at Kroger between now and
November 27th next Sunday to get
$40 to spend at Kroger Marketplace.
This sure will come in handy to get
Christmas gifts!

11-16-11

8:45am

Back to making my pickled eggs this morning.

I wrote down everything I put into the beet mixture-
This is used per one dozen eggs. I made 2 batches.

2 cans of beets, with juice, cut beet slices in half (.78 cents manager specials)
1 onion chopped (.10 cents)
3/4 cup white vinegar (.25 cents)
1/4 cup malt or apple cider vinegar (.15 cents)
pinch of black pepper (.01 cent)
1/2 tsp. crushed bay leaves (.01 cent)
1/2 tsp. allspice (.01 cent)
1/2 tsp garlic powder (.01 cent)
1 tsp. onion powder (.01 cent)
1-2 T. Franks Red Hot sauce (free)
splash of tobasco sauce (free)
3/4 cup Splenda (free)
1 dozen eggs, hard boiled and peeled (free)

Total cost to make 1 dozen pickled eggs- $1.33
(24 deviled eggs)

x's 2 dozen that I am making- $2.66
(the other dozen is for Tony and won't be deviled)

and most of the things I'll be using
to devil them are freebies from sales and coupons!
(mayo, mustard, seasoning, green olives)

Put all the above in a saucepan over
medium heat til almost boiling.
Cook for 5 minutes.

In a large glass jar add a spoonful of beets/onions
then 2-3 eggs,
spoon in more beets & onions, repeat til full.

Pour beet liquid over top. If you don't have enough
liquid to come to the top then I just poured
in a little more vinegar to top it off.

Allow to sit 3 days up to 2 weeks in the fridge.

Next week I plan to remove eggs from jar
and devil them for Thanksgiving.

Ok, how do you peel boiled eggs without
making them look horrible afterwards???

Super fresh eggs are difficult to peel because the
pH of the white is low which causes it to adhere to
the shell membrane more tightly. Two solutions here
– use older eggs or add a little baking soda to the
cooking water to increase the pH.

11:00am

I tried the baking soda trick and it didn't work for me.
How can something as easy as making deviled eggs
or pickled eggs at that, turn out to be such a hassle.
I went ahead and pickled the eggs that I boiled
but they look like I threw the suckers first
and busted them all to hell.

---------------------------------------------------------

Whelp time to put a couple more notches in the
money belt and tighten it up.

I'll be posting
any deals or sales I see for the holidays.
Just sucks I cannot afford about 95% of them
at the moment.

Tony got lucky the other day at work and found
a BMX bicycle that a tenant left behind when
they moved out. Jonathan wanted a bicycle for
Christmas and there was absolutely no way I could
afford a new one let alone a used one. This is a God's send.
I haven't seen it yet because he left it at
work in the shop. Not quite sure where in the
world we would put this bike and try to hide
it here. Maybe take it to moms?

-------------------------------------------------------

Tonight's supper- Sausage Biscuits & Gravy

1 roll of ground sausage $1.00
2 jars sausage gravy
1 pkg sausage gravy $1.20
1 can Kroger biscuits .70 cents

Total cost $2.90

I thought this article from channel 4 was interesting.

Report: Store-Bought Honey May Not Be Honey
Lab Tests Show No Pollen Content, No Proof It's Actually Honey

76-percent of samples from major grocery store chains, including Kroger and Giant Eagle contained no pollen. All of the samples purchased at drug stores, including CVS, Rite-Aid and Walgreens, were devoid of pollen. Seventy-seven percent of the samples from discount stores such as Costco, Sam's Club, Target and Walmart did not include pollen. And none of the fast-food-style single-serving packets included pollen.

"Most people buy honey because of the health advantages to it," says Conrad. "People want to eat healthy. If you're eating honey without the good properties then you're just eating another sweetener."

For those of you who missed Two and a Half Men
last night due to the local news breaking
in about a tornado warning HERE it is. Just now catching
up on it because it was early in the show
that Jake just told his dad he got his girlfriend
pregnant then the news channel broke in.
That sucked!

3:00pm

Getting ready to boil some eggs to pickle.
It takes from 3 days up to 2 weeks to pickle
depending upon how strong you want them to be.

3:45pm

I got the beet juice mix ready and boiled.
Got the eggs boiled.
I am at a standstill for a little bit.
Why you ask? Why ask why!

Well let's see, I put the strainer in the sink
on top of a few dishes that were in there
and went to dump the boiling water off the eggs.
Something didn't go right and the strainer tipped
some causing the boiling hot water to go
down the front of me. I immediately stripped
right then and there to keep the hot water
from penetrating my skin any more than it could.
From what I can see, and feel, it got my belly,
both feet and an ankle.

GEESH, can't the simplest things go right???
So like I said everything is at a standstill
because I've been applying cool wash cloths
to the burns and standing in front of the fan.
Nothing to run to the hospital for but it
still hurts some, more on the belly than
anywhere else.

These better be some damn good pickled, deviled eggs!

Don't feel the greatest today.
Stomach feels a little raw.
It's hard to explain.
Hope it's not the stomach flu or nothing
like that brewing up. Kids have had runny noses
and that's it.

I just remembered that it was one year ago
on my birthday yesterday that I took my first ambulance
ride to the hospital for the stomach flu
and dehydration.
