7-8-12

10:45am

Feels much better outside this morning than
yesterday which felt like 97 this early.
Right now it feels like 83 degrees.
We have a heat advisory til 6:00pm.

I just got up at 10:00am because the neighbor
was calling my cell phone wanting to borrow
a cooler to go to the GoodGuys car show.
His poor kids.  It's still supposed to be 90 or so
today and they don't have ac in their Tahoe.
The little boy was wearing blue jeans while
the others had shorts on.  I hear it's a lot of
walking when you go to that show.

My neck is still bothering me.
The pain and stiffness never really went away
but felt so much better the past week.
Well today it's back again full speed to
where I can't turn my head again.

Tomorrow, Monday July 9th, many people
to a computer virus.
You can find out now if you computer
will be affected by all this by going http://dns-ok.us/
If the logo shows up green you are good to
go and don't have the virus.
If the logo shows up red then you have the
virus and will need to get your computer fixed.
I got the information about it HERE.

--------------------------------------

11:30pm

Tony is working out in the yard
trimming bushes & trees.
Got the sprinkler going on the bushes and some flowers.
I got all the dead stalks pulled from the daylilies.

He wants to get some more weed whipper string
so we can get the grass cut and trimmed.
Uh, it's still hot out there!
Still awaiting the phone call so we
can go to Groveport and Tony can
paint his friend's ceiling and relocate a dryer vent.
Our friend Jeff at work said he would give
him a side job one day this week if he wanted.
Jeff is a certified HVAC tech and also is a contractor
for other places of business doing side work.

1:15pm

Just returned home from Menards
and getting some weed whipper string.
I also picked up some things for supper.
I would like to make a taco salad
and have to tweak the recipe some
due to Menards not having a bunch of food.
So I got Hunt's 4 cheese spaghetti sauce for $1.00

to mix with some deer burger for the meat mix
along with about a partial packet of taco seasoning.

I found a couple bags of Menards cheddar tortilla chips
for $1.00 and a large tub of sour cream for $1.89.
I can use sour cream on other things like
some microwaved baked potatoes.
They didn't have any cheese at Menards so
I'm just going to use some Velveeta style cheese
melted down with some milk and poured
over our taco salad.  I already had a head of lettuce which was .99.

Got home then rake up the yard from where
Tony trimmed the bushes and one little tree.
I didn't rake up the trimmed stuff from
the Hawethorn tree.  The reason was because I
put it all in my wagon and used that debris
to put around my pepper plants in the garden.
I made sure there was no weeds mixed in.
It'll make a good mulch for now then later
on will break down and be composted into the soil.

Come Fall time I plan to save all the dead pine
needles and some dead leaves to put into
the empty veggie and flower garden beds for the Winter
so as to not to lose any precious soil I've worked
on this year.  Plus like I said it's good for the soil
and will all compost down for next year's garden.

I got 9 hot banana peppers from the garden today.
I'm going to pickle them in canning jars.

This will make them taste like the ones
you find in the store in jars.
You can Google all kinds of recipes to pickle them.
I don't have some things the recipe calls for
so will just throw in items I have like
onions, onion powder, celery, garlic,
vinegar, splenda, and a couple slices of oranges
from the freezer.

-------------------------------------------------------------------

2:30pm

Don't ever think banana peppers can't be very HOT!
Hee hee, Tony grabbed one of the banana pepper
slices when I was making pickled peppers.
He was drinking from the milk jug they were very hot.
I told him to eat some bread instead that it would
help much better.
Anyways here's my pickled banana peppers.
I put them in a may jar and will let them sit and
in the fridge awhile before eating.

I saved the seeds from the peppers
and put them in a bowl.
They are outside in the heat drying out.

3:30pm

Tony's been on the kick of getting the yard cleaned
and trimmed up.  Not sure why because I prefer the ac!
But have been out in the yard helping rake stuff up
and pick up any yard debris from the storm.
Now he's getting ready to go back out and cut grass.
It's not as hot today as the last couple of
days but it's still hot outside with a little breeze at least.
It's 89 and feels like 92 degrees.
I've been following a storm on radar that is
currently back in Illinois heading into Indiana.
If it keeps going the route it's going then
it looks as though we might get some rain later one.
BRING IT!
Tomorrow it's supposed to be 89 for a high.
Temps in the mid to upper 60's for a low.
Might have to break out a jacket, LOL!
89 is about a 10-20 degrees difference from what
we have been experiencing.
At least today I can stand on our concrete driveway with
bare feet.  Yesterday it was scorching hot!!

-------------------------------------------------

4:00pm

Here's a very helpful tip for when dealing with peppers!
Don't assume that since you washed you hands
once after touching them that the hottness of
the pepper has gone away!!!
Wash them MANY MANY times!!!
Or wear gloves would be another good option
I will have to remember!!

You do NOT and I stress NOT
want to go through what I am experiencing right now!!
Let's just say I went to the restroom
and my woo hoo is on major fire right now.
Doing a dance, putting on cold rags and are
in burning pain at the moment running around the house yelling!
Everyone here is just laughing and laughing at me
and I'm in pain.  Oh, Tony jokes and said
to put some bread on it because I told him
to eat bread earlier when he ate a piece of pepper
to help stop the burn.  Oh he thinks he's funny, ha ha.
If you carry a can of pepper spray and need to use
it on someone, don't aim for the eyes,
aim for the crotch, that would definitely stop
them in their tracks or make them run in circles for a few.

7:45pm

Just got back from taking a load of sticks and
branches over to Tony's work.
Found a small bookshelf while there.
Stopped in Kroger to get some
groceries for the week.
While in there the fire alarm went off
sounding a loud buzzing alarm and lots
of white flashing lights.
I think it was a false alarm?
By the time we checked out and headed
to the parking lot firetrucks and and an ambulance
was pulling up.

Here's the thing upon returning home.
Truck driver neighbor has told me one
of the reasons he doesn't like his kids
playing with another neighbor girl on the street is
that she bugs them too much.  For example he said
he can't even pull up in the driveway upon returning home that
she ain't over there wanting to play
before they can get out of the car.

Tonight upon us returning home and backing
into the driveway truck driver's kids were walking
over to our home and was by the truck before
I could even open the door asking if the kids could play.
I open the back doors to the truck to take
the groceries into the house.
Next thing I know is truck driver neighbor
is over here sitting in our lawn chair under our
carport.  And all I can hear is my head is the one
time he told me he didn't like that girl coming
to their house when they were pulling in the driveway
but here he and his kids are at our house
in the backyard as we're carrying groceries in.
And of course that one neighbor girl
that he didn't like his kids around came
over here as well.
Sigh, can't get a moment's peace and the neighbor
needs to practice what he preaches that's for sure.
Trying to get a late supper baked in the oven
and it's now almost 8:15pm.
All of us are in the house except for one kid.
I can still see the neighbor on the security camera
sitting in the chair under our carport with his
kids nowhere to be seen.
I'm thinking dude, get a life and go home!
The day after taking truck driver neighbor and his
kids to the pool I couldn't even pull out of the driveway
that his kids got wind of us going swimming and
was running over to our truck with floaties
and such in hand wanting to go.
I had to tell them they couldn't go because
we were running other errands and
going to fireworks.
If neighbor doesn't like kids at his house
pestering him then why do it to us?
I don't mind it most of the time but
when it's obvious we are busy or a just leaving or getting home
then I have a problem with it.

Ok it's pizza time.  I'm hungry and we got
a couple of frozen Kroger pizzas for supper.
Tomorrow night will be taco salad.

Oh yeah, the weather felt so much better out
there this evening at 84 degrees, truck windows down
and a breeze blowing.  Yesterday I felt like I could have just
melted at this same time.  Now are hoping for some rain.
It all seems to be staying South of 70.
So close but no cigar yet.

7-7-12

10:10am

You know it's gonna be a hot one when
it's only 10am and it's 92 and feels like 98 degrees already!!
I read yesterday that some areas were experiencing
brownouts.  A brownout is where people have not
conserved power.  When there is a power overload
such as too many air conditioners running at once
in one area the power company shuts that area
down to conserve the power.

11:10am

It's 95 and feels like 101 degrees.
I really hope everyone stays safe today
and finds some cool air somewhere.

11:40am

96 and feels like 104 degrees out.

If you need help from the Red Cross you can call
Hands On Centeral Ohio at
211 (or 221) 2255.

AEP Ohio has restored power to approximately 90 percent
of the 660,00 customers at this time.
62,000 AEP Ohio customers currently remain without power.

11:55am

Got the dishes loaded in the dishwasher
and made a couple chicken sandwiches for breakfast, lunch
whatever you wanna call it around here for the boys.
I made me and Tony a bologna and egg sandwich.
Got some boneless pork loin chops in
the crock pot with cream of mushroom soup
and a packet of pork seasoning.

It's so hot all you wanna do is sleep your days away.
Me and Jonathan got up around 10:00am.
Tony's just now getting up at noon.
It's been awhile since we've all been able
to catch up on our sleep and sleep in.

1:10pm

Oh my word!
It's 97 and feels like 107 degrees.
Hot as you know what outside!
We just got our cooler out of the truck
and brought it indoors.
Got the windows rolled down in the truck
and the sun shade put on the outside
of the windshield to help keep some
heat out of it.  Checked on the garden
and it seems to be doing good.  Got
everything watered last night except for the tomatoes.
Hydrangeas are struggling and I keep watering them.
Got about 6 ripened cherry tomatoes
from the garden today.  Those are gone as Tony
ate them when we were outside, lol.
After bit we have to go down and
figure out how to siphon gas out of
the generator and get it loaded
in mom's truck.  Then also have to help
load the dogs once my brother gets back home from
his trip so mom can take them home.
And don't get me started with that whole ordeal
of when someone wants you to watch their
dogs why do you have to drive an hour plus away
to go get them and then another hour plus back
to take them back home figuring out how to load a
big ass generator and dogs in the truck when they are
60-70+ years old.  Then making the 70+ year old flip
out about this stuff that only we hear about but not
the person who put us all through this crap.
Plus other things
that just irritate me at the moment about it.
Thanks brother!   Hope your vacation went
well while we all suffered in the heat
dealing with your dogs during 4th of July
and went without power and air condition.
It would be nice if his wife ever thanked
us or mom for anything we've ever done.
She does not.  I feel as though she only
acknowledges us when she wants something.
She even had them dog sitting on Mother's Day
and their anniversary.  I would like to try
this in reverse for her and see how that works out.
Betchya she'd have a major cow.

Oh well onto other things I guess
before I let this heat get to me.

The Heat Is On.

1:50pm

Ok that is really weird.  After posting the
link for the heat is on, I found
Beverly Hills Cop playing on the comedy channel
and are now watching it.

--------------------------------------------------------------

Here lately it seems like I've sent off
for a lot of freebies from Facebook
and other places.  As I get them in the mail
I'll share them with you.
This is what came in ours and mom's mailbox
yesterday, a free Schick Hydro 5 Razor.
This goes for $7.94 at walmart and
$10.99 at Walgreens.
Gotta love those freebies!!

-------------------------------------------

 7:00pm

Just got back from the pool.
Been there since about 4:30pm.
Not too sure who's bright idea that was
but it sure as heck wasn't mine.
You would think you'd
get relief from the pool....NOT today!!!
Felt like I could've melted.
Gotta remember our ac in a BLACK truck
works pretty good in the back.
The front was blowing hot air
and I couldn't get back home fast enough.

Temperature on the way to the pool.

At the pool trying to make the most of it.
Our friend Jeff and his lady friend Kendra
was there.  They were cooling off with drinks
other than water if ya know what I mean.
Too funny, Jeffie spilled his rum and coke
and I offered him a straw, LOL.
(he was faking it)

They were all being a bunch of goofballs.
About the only thing you can try to
do in this friggin' heat because if you
let it get to you then you just want
to go beat the crap outta someone.
That's the way the heat makes you feel, irritable!
You start getting snappy at one another.

The temperature when we got in the truck
when getting ready to come home.
It actually dropped a degree before I snapped the picture.

Oh my goodness I didn't think I
could go fast enough to get back home.
The air that came from the truck
vents in the front was so hot.
Kids stayed cool in the back.
I was drinking a water and poured
some of it on me while driving!
I don't EVER remember it being this hot before.
Soooo glad to be back home!!!!

7-6-12

7:30am

I feel sooo sorry for the people at the
GoodGuys car show having to sit
out with their cars on the blacktop.
I don't care how pretty a car is
or how expensive it is, this
would not be worth it to me.
A 113 heat index for tomorrow.
Who's going to be scared to open
July's electric bill after these temperatures???
85 degrees is going to feel like a major cool
down when we've been having heat indexes
100 to 113 degrees.  I wonder what this Winter
will be like at this rate.  Last year's was pretty mild.
Only had to use the shovel once and it wasn't
for snow but to remove ice off the driveway.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

9:05am

Out of all the pudding pops I made the other
day the Pumpkin Maple Spice
was the most favorite.
I used a pumpkin spice pudding mix
and added in a touch of maple syrup
and mixed with 2 cups milk.
I'm sure you won't find that flavored pudding
mix this time of year, only around Thanksgiving
and Christmas.  Try adding pumpkin pie
seasoning or filling to another flavor of pudding mix.

Today I wanted to make a Digoirno pizza for supper.
It was one of the food items found in a freezer
in a vacant apartment at Tony's work this week.
I was thinking about making up some homemade
bread sticks to go with it and use a can
of Hunts spaghetti sauce as dip for them.

9:30am

Got breakfast of egg, bologna and cheese sandwiches made.
Now I have breadstick dough going in the bread machine.

It's 85 with a heat index of 91 degrees already, ugghhh!

-----------------------------------------------------------

11:15am

Got the breadstick dough divided up,
rolled out and now they are rising again.
I used the bread machine pizza crust recipe HERE.
It made 34 breadsticks.  I might put half of these
in the freezer.
With the heat and all I'm going to try and
figure out how to bake these in a crock pot today.
I'll brush them with melted butter and
sprinkle garlic powder and parmesan cheese on top.

It's 89 degrees with a 96 heat index!
House is dark, ac is on 76, all fans going, still have blankets over windows and I put a blanket over one door
that has gaps around the sides
to keep any and all heat out!
May sound weird but it sure as heck
is nice and cool in here to the point
I sometimes put a sweater on!

---------------------------------------------------------------

For those with SNAP assistance (food stamps)
they are now issuing an additional certain percentage of food stamps to your account
for those who lost their food during the power outage.
Of course those who don't have this assistance have
to struggle and figure out how in the world
to replace any and all food that was lost.
Those who are not on welfare do
NOT get any state assistance in this matter!!!
We pay our taxes and get crapped on in the
end left hung out to dry!!  Not all of us
qualify for food stamps yet it is still difficult
to put food on the table.  If we lose our food
during situations like this we sure as heck
don't have any extra money to just go out
and restock the refrigerator and freezers.
Welcome to America!

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

12:00pm

For lunch I made up a small Stouffer's entree
of creamed chip beef (found in vacant apartment's freezer)
and mixed in a package of biscuit gravy
in a skillet to help stretch it out for the three of us to eat.
I served it over toast.

6 slices wheat bread .36 cents
1 packet biscuit gravy .69 cents
2 cups water - free
Stouffer's cream chipped beef entree- free

Total cost for lunch - $1.05
serves 3 @ .35 cents a serving

----------------------------------------------------

4:45pm

It's 100 degrees and feels like 103.
I don't think it matters at this point
IT'S HOT AS HELL OUT THERE!!!
Gonna try and put more freon in the truck this
evening and hope it cools it more in this heat.
Right now I have pizza and bread sticks baking.
I can't believe I turned my oven on today.
Believe me I really thought about
making a solar oven today for the pizza.
I had no other choice for supper to make
at this time.  Should of just put the pans
they were on outside in the street to bake.

-------------------------------------------------------------

5:30pm

Can't get the truck to take any freon at
the moment which means we'll have to deal
with lukewarm air up front for now.  Better than nothing.
Last night we filled our cooler with ice
and drinks.  Must be a really good cooler
considering the truck's been sitting in the sun for
most of the day with the cooler in the back end.
There's still ice in the cooler.
Now the smell in
the truck is another story.  I left a frozen bag of meat in there
the other day overnight because I forgot it.  It thawed and I think
it leaked some meat juice onto the carpet
and I was just out there scrubbing the heck out
of the carpet because the whole truck
reeked of a foul odor after baking in the sun today.
I have used about a half bottle of febreez on the carpet
and doused the truck with some perfume.
I hope that works because if not we'll
have to pull the carpet up in the back end.
It smells like something died in there!
Maybe I'll sprinkle some baking soda and/or
cat litter on the carpet also to help absorb the odor.
See what the heat wave and having no power
at one point does to ya, ahhhhh!
It could be worse.  Three people in Newark
died today because of having no power
and health problems.
I saw this morning
that there was still almost 18,000
in Franklin county alone without power.

Did you know???

If you are without cable service for more
than 24 hours cable companies are required by
law to credit their customers.
You must call your cable company
to let them know and to get credited.

-----------------------------------------------------------

7:00pm

I dumped an entire box of baking soda on an
area of carpet in the back of the truck.
Waiting for it to dry up so I can sweep it out.
Looks like crap but doesn't smell like it.

Have to stop by Tony's work tonight.
He forgot my computer.  I've been without
my computer and have been using another one
for the past month.  It was another one of those things
that was put on the back burner due to money
but Tony's boss said to bring it into work
to see if he could figure out what was wrong with it.
Not sure what he did but it doesn't have to run in safe mode now.
That was the only way I could use it before it
would keep shutting off.
It kept shutting off because it would get so hot.
They opened it up and saw that the fan was caked
with dust.  Don't know what it is with lap tops
wanting to get hot but it must be a problem considering
they now sell laptop fans.  I have a fan for all the computers
now not that it prevents it from happening but it
helps some.

It's 97 and feels like 98.
We'll be heading out soon.
Was waiting for the sun to set some before doing so.

----------------------------------------------------------------

11:50pm

Just got home not long ago from watching
the GoodGuy cars up at the Continent.
Not nearly as many people as past years.

Notice time on radio and temperature on mirror of truck.
This was us stopping at Speedway before
going over to Busch Blvd.

Got stopped by a train.
Can't recall ever seeing a train around here
hauling telephone poles til this major power outage.

It was dark so I couldn't get very many good
photos of all the cars we saw.

Yup, this about sums up how I feel about all this heat.
Just stick me with a fork because I'm done.

When we got there we sat on our blanket
next to another couple.
The other older couple left and said some guy asked
them to watch his 12 pack and they had to leave
due to working 3rd shift.  Well we sat there
awhile watching the cars and the guy never
showed back up.  Couldn't leave a 12 pack
of beer sitting there all by its lonesome, lol,
so in the truck it went.

I can't believe we are ALL still up and it's
after midnight.  I think we're just glad to be home
soaking up and chilling in the air.
It's so HOT and muggy out there!
No breeze outside to be found at all.
Tomorrow 104, can't wait, ahhhhh!

7-5-12

7:20am

I was researching to figure out what we saw last
night in the sky.
I think I may have figured it out
but never heard of one til now.
It might be what Asians call a
sky lantern, wish lantern,
kongming lantern or Chinese lantern.
They set them off at festivals such as
the fourth of July or during certain full moons
which we did have last night.

It seems to have the same shape
as the thing we saw last night only
the one we saw had a blinking light.

-------------------------------------------------------------

6:10pm

96 and feels like 99 degrees.
Supper of fried pork chops
and homemade mac and cheese.
Heading out after supper to pick up
a couple items like bread at Kroger
then going to drive around at some hotels
to see if there's any hot rods from
Good Guys in town yet.

We reached a record high today of 98.
The previous record was from 1911 at 97 degrees.

------------------------------------------------------------

9:25pm

Went over to the Continent to see some of the
cars come in for the GoodGuys show this weekend.
Saw about 7 power company trucks
from Mississippi at one hotel.
Here's a sneak peak of what's to
come with all the cool looking muscle cars and hot rods
this weekend.

From there we headed over to Ollie's to get
a couple cans of freon for the truck.
It's getting cold air in the rear of the truck
but still blowing lukewarm up front.
Really need the ac to work with the driving
around we'll be doing this weekend
looking at cars and with all the walking
in the hot parking lots at the hotels.
Well go up and hang out after dark Saturday night
and take the wagon with the cooler and chairs
to sit out along the roadway to watch the cars by the Continent.
Weather.com says 101 for Friday and 103 for Saturday
and that's not including the heat index!
I knew they had the cheapest cans of
freon for $6.88.  I saw a sign as we entered
the store that the entire store was 15% off
so that made the small cans of freon $5.88 each
a savings of $1.03 off the regular price.
REALLY good deal considering other
places want about $10 to $15 a small can!
After leaving Ollie's we started hearing the grumbling
of thunder and seeing lightning flashes.
After everything we've been through in this
past week we now cringe at the sight of any thunderstorms
in central Ohio whether we need the rain or not.

----------------------------------------------------------------
