9-30-11

7:15am

It was 54 degrees when sitting out at the bus stop
this morning. The radio station I was listening
to said it was to get up to 55 degrees for a high.
BRRR! I know, it could be about 20 degrees out
so I shouldn't be complaining.
Still haven't turned on the furnace.
I like my gas bill at the moment running
about $29.
This morning it was 68 degrees in here.
I turned on the portable electric heater on low
in the living room for an hour and it got
to 71 degrees in here.

Me and mom went to a church sale and thrift store this
morning. I thought I got some really good deals today!

Thrift store finds-

$3.93 Vornado whole room heater.
It has no glowing elements and uses
a fan to blow warm air into the room.
Stays cool to the touch. Also blows cool air
with adjustable thermostat.
I've had it plugged in and running
for 45 minutes and it's raised it 4 degrees
in the dining/living room and kitchen areas.
Was 67 degrees now 71 degrees.

This next item I splurged on for a Christmas
gift for my oldest son. I don't have much in the
way of gifts for him this year other than
a gas gift card that we can get free by
using our Speedway points collected over the past year.
Ohio State Buckeyes jacket $8.99.

Plus I got the boys 4 pair of jeans ($1.99 each) and about
5 long sleeve shirts (.99 cents each) from the thrift store.

Church sale deals

Bag #1 .25 cents for all
5 t-shirts
1 sweat jacket

Bag #2 .25 cents for all
4 womens tops
1 capris
flannel mens jacket

Bag#3 .25 cents for all

2 LARGE lights $3.00
I've been wanting some large torch lights
to hang on the living room wall. I want to
remove the electrical wires/bulbs and paint
them with a can of hammered copper spray
paint that I have. I plan to put flameless
candles in them. These things are about as tall
as two 2 liter bottles of pop. I priced a set
of two used ones at Habitat for Humanity one time
about the size of these and they wanted $50 for each one!!!!!

2 car heaters .50 cents for both.
Worm box .10 cents.
Rubbing compound & Turtle wax .25 cents each.
2 packages of beads .25 cents each.

9-29-11

7:50am

I got more potatoes to dehydrate this morning and
possibly some laundry soap to make.

Yesterday we had to stop in Kroger to get Tony
a couple more prescriptions. He had another doctor's
appointment yesterday. They cleaned out his other ear
and said it had gotten infected as well. He needs to
use ear drops in that ear also now. The doctor
gave him a sinus medicine like prescription Claritin. Kroger does not
have it at the moment so we have to wait til Friday
to pick it up. And he also got a prescription nasal spray.

While in Kroger I looked for some laundry bar soap.
I could not find my Zote bar laundry soap at Meijer
yesterday. I usually find it in the foreign section
of the grocery store with the foods but it was no longer
located there. I found Fels Naptha at Kroger which
is another laundry bar soap you could use. And
when neither can be found you can use soaps
like Ivory and Dove. While in the laundry isle I checked
out their Downy fabric softener. I FINALLY found my
fabric softener scent that I designed in the Downy contest.
It's in a pinkish red/orange bottle and is called
Citrus Spice Glow. Sometime I would like to get a bottle
just for a keepsake but will wait til a sale and coupons
to get one because I think it was $4 or $5. A little steep
for my budget. I wish they had given me at least some free coupons
for the Downy I made.

------------------------------------------------------------

Be sure to check the coupon section of your 10-2 Sunday paper.
There is supposed to be $20 in coupons from Pepsi Co!

10:15am

I made up a few mixes to store in the pantry-
Cream soup mix, beef gravy mix and chicken gravy mix.

These mixes can cost .50 cents to over a $1 for
each packet in the store. It is much cheaper
to make your own. So easy to make ahead of time
with things you already have in your kitchen.

Tonight is open house at Jonathan's school.
Then we get to come home and work on some
scrap metal. Tony has an overflowing
5 gallon bucket of brass scrap metal at work
he's bringing home to cut up
and have ready to take in Saturday morning.
He has asks all the guys at work to save
the metals from different maintenance jobs for him.

You can check the current price of metals
at the Recycling Exchange.

Brass is now at $1.35 a pound!
Aluminum cans are .61 to .64 cents a pound.

We have even considered going around and collecting
aluminum cans from his work now that the weather is cooler.
It's kind of nasty and buggy if you do it during
the warmer weather and have them sitting around
with bees getting into them and they start to stink.

5:30-6:00pm

Got all the copper and brass cut up this evening.
I'm going to guess on how much I think we'll get for it.
59 pounds brass
7 pounds copper

I'm going to say about $84.65
give or take.
Not too shabby for some free metal!
We'll see what we get for it Saturday.

I'm still working on reminding Tony to ask
about getting any leftover Sunday papers from
a convenience store not far from his work.
He keeps forgetting every day. Going to remind
him lots tomorrow before the weekend gets here!!

---------------------------------------------------------

We've been discussing our plans for this weekend throughout the week.
I was thinking we need to go to the thrift store. I need
some Winter clothing for the boys, long sleeve shirts and
more pants. And we need to go to K-Mart to get Tony some more
shoes. It seems like he just got shoes but they are already
wearing out on the bottoms with holes. Nothing today is
made to last!!

We also need to look into getting U-joints to put on the truck.
Hoping for a half way decent day this weekend to do it.
I also need to look for receipts from where I bought
Tony's brakes and rotors for his car. They come with a lifetime
warranty. He showed me tonight where his brakes are putting
grooves into the rotors! GRRRR!

Mom asked me earlier today about going to yard sales tomorrow.
I'm thinking the weather is going to be cold and rainy.
But I looked in the paper anyway to see what was going on.
Woo Hoo, my favorite church sale will be going on again.
The place that has clothes for .25 cents a plastic grocery bag.
Really hoping to find the boys clothes there at that price!!

Well I am off here for now. Sitting here watching
Extreme Couponing on TLC. These people amaze me.
What the heck are they going to do with 300 toothbrushes?
What they fail to mention on this show is that most of
these people purchase coupons on the internet and don't
deduct that from the cost of their purchases.
What I would like to know is where are these people
shopping at that allows so many duplicate coupons?
Here in Columbus-
Giant Eagle is 10 like coupons.
Kroger is 3 like coupons.
Meijers is 2 like coupons.

8:30am

Getting ready to go grocery shopping at Meijer.
There's 5 of of us going, mom, step-dad, me and 2 kids.
This ought to be fun. If I haven't pulled my hair
out at the end of this shopping trip it will be
a miracle. I have lots of coupons to use
so need to be in my right mind somehow.

--------------------------------------------------------------

10:30am

It was hard for me to stick to a grocery budget of only $40
this week. Food prices are too high at the moment.
I'm hoping that with falling gas prices, some food
prices along with other items will start to drop as well.
Not all things on my grocery lists have coupons.
For example- milk, bread, eggs, gerbil food, ibuprofen and so on.
Or it is cheaper to buy store brands than it is
to use coupons on some name brands.

I spent $46 today at Meijer and $18 at Aldi this week.
Now that I am getting back into coupons, my stockpile
will start growing and I won't need as many groceries
each week in the future when I get stocked up.

Next week I hope to only spend around $25 total for the week.
And that's using the $5 off $25 at Save-A-Lot
trying to stock up on sausage, toilet paper, milk
and anything else I might need.

So if you look at it this way, then this week
and next week I will have only spent $89
which averages out to only $45 a week.

Here's the result of today's Meijer trip-

Spent $46
I saved $70.58

So $116.58 of groceries for $47!

1:45pm

Got another 2.5 pounds potatoes sliced
and put in the dehydrator. This time
around I did not peel them first.
I sliced them peels and all since
that's where a lot of vitamins are!

--------------------------------------------------------------

Got my gas and electric bill today.

I haven't run air condition for about a month
now and my electric bill still seems high for
some reason. I actually used 123KWH more
than last year at this time. Something's not
making any sense. I did manage to shave
$60 off since last month down from
$172 down to $112.

The gas bill was not in my favor either.
Usually they bill me too much. I know
last year after they made an actual meter
reading I did not have to pay gas for
three months because I paid too much during
the year. Now I have to pay this months
bill of $26.38 along with an additional
$48.50 where I didn't pay enough throughout
the year.

Can't win. Going to have to take an electric
inventory around the house to see what is plugged
in, what's running all the time, what can I unplug,
what has to stay on. We do have some concern
that maybe the "new" double door fridge
with ice maker and water in the door my
be eating a lot of electric compared
to our last fridge.

I have yet to turn the furnace on even when
it got down into the 40's some mornings.
I got out an electric heater. I haven't used
it yet. But if it gets too chilly in here some
mornings in the near future I'm going to turn
that on instead of the furnace for about an hour.
Trying to hold off as long as possible.

I see gas prices at the pump going down.
Yesterday I saw $3.14. I'm hoping that will
mean that the natural gas might go down as well.
I don't know how that all works. I know
we all could use a break somewhere with utilities
and gas for vehicles!!

Many years ago we had our gas furnace at our apartment
go out ealry morning of a horrible Winter day.
Our living and dining area was about
12 feet by 22 feet and I hung blankets in the
open doorways to close them off. I used an electric heater about
the size of a toaster and it heated the room
up very well.

So I am hoping by using an electric heater here and
there throughout the day it will save some on
the gas furnace bill this Winter. I'm not talking
about having it on during sleeping hours as I would
be too worried about that. Maybe an hour in the morning
when we wake up and an hour in the evening.
I have electric blankets I can plug in for about
about 30 minutes to an hour each night under comforters and warm up
the beds then turn off.

I liked this story!

A mother passing by her daughter's bedroom was astonished to see the bed was nicely made and everything was picked up. Then she saw an envelope propped up prominently on the center of the bed. It was addressed, "Mom." With the worst premonition, she opened the envelope and read the letter with trembling hands: Dear Mom: It is with great regret and sorrow tha......t I'm writing you. I had to elope with my new boyfriend because I wanted to avoid a scene with Dad and you. I've been finding real passion with him and he is so nice-even with all his piercings, tattoos, beard, and his motorcycle clothes. But it's not only the passion Mom, I'm pregnant and he said that we will be very happy. He already owns a trailer in the woods and has a stack of firewood for the whole winter. He wants to have many more children with me and that's now one of my dreams too. He taught me that marijuana doesn't really hurt anyone and we'll be growing it for us and trading it with his friends for all the cocaine and ecstasy we want. In the meantime, we'll pray that science will find a cure for AIDS so he can get better; he sure deserves it!! Don't worry Mom, I'm 15 years old now and I know how to take care of myself. Someday I'm sure we'll be back to visit so you can get to know your grand children. Your daughter, Cheyanne.. PS: Mom, none of the above is true. I'm over at the neighbor's house. I just wanted to remind you that there are worse things in life than my report card that's in my desk center drawer. I love you! Call when it is safe for me to come home!!

Sample should arrive in 6-8 weeks.

9:30pm

Well I have figured out how to flush the sinuses out, lol,
chop up about 8-10 onions! Eyes are tearing and nose
is dripping.

I got 5 trays of onions in the dehydrator.
I put the dehydrator out under the carport
so that the house won't smell much more than
it already does from onions.

I use canning jars and other jars from
peanut butter, mayo, salsa and sauces to store
dehydrated veggies in. You could also
use them to store rice, beans, pasta, flour and sugar in.

Slowly but surely I'd like to get a bunch
of vegetables dehydrated and put in the
basement pantry. Stock up on them when they are in
season and on sale and find ways to preserve them
so you don't pay the higher costs when they are
out of season and stores have to ship them in
from farther away places and they aren't as good then.

Tomorrow I am planning a shopping trip to Meijer
with mom and kids. The kids don't have school tomorrow
so this ought to be a fun trip.
I plan to get some more onions (3 lb bag on sale for .99 cents),
celery and maybe some carrots to do up in the dehydrator.

I've been doing surveys at the new survey site I posted
yesterday. I am already up to $8.00 in a days time.
A little frustrating doing surveys because at times
you could be doing one and get half way through
only to be told you don't qualify or they have
received the number of people already for that survey.
You can't give up, keep trying til you find ones
that will go through!

Jonathan just informed me today that a 5th grade teacher
moved onto a different school or quit (I don't know exact
details) and now there is only one fifth grade class in his
school instead of two. Some fifth graders from the one class was put
into fourth grade classes and some into his fifth grade class
raising the head count in his class to 35 kids!!!!!
Usually it's around 25 kids.
And Columbus Schools wonder why they are doing so poorly?!
And they are closing some schools saying there is not
enough students in them? (shaking head)

you could get 2 small country crocks

It does not state what kind of frozen broccoli
so will be pricing the Meijer frozen boxed and bagged

best deal.

10:00am

Went to Save-A-Lot this morning and decided that
I could get better prices at Aldis.
So that's where I shopped today instead.

Save-A-Lot ground 1 pound turkey $1.79
Aldi ground 1 pound turkey $1.49

Here's a scenario-
At Save-A-Lot I could buy 5 rolls of turkey for $8.95
At Aldi I could buy 6 rolls of turkey for $8.94

By shopping at Aldi I get more for my money.

Any who I spent $18 at Aldi and got these items below-

2 loaves bread
1 frozen pizza
3 cans mild chili beans
1 box buttery round crackers
6 pounds ground turkey
1 bag BBQ chips
1 box baking soda
1 bag chocolate chips

Sometimes I like to keep a list of prices
of what certain things cost. I like to know
if I use coupons and a sale at one store,
is that price cheaper than if I had
gone to Aldi?

So while strolling though Aldis today I
jotted down prices of some things.

2 lb 1.9 ounce canned coffee $5.29

Pound of ground sausage $2.29

10 pound bag of potatoes $1.99

Canned vegetables .49 cents

12 pack ramen noodles $1.19

Cream soups .69 cents

13 ounce boxed mashed potatoes $1.19

celery $1.19

onion soup mix .79 cents

cooking spray $1.19

1 pound 9.6 ounce powdered milk $5.99

Chicken or beef canned broth .59 cnets

Chicken or beef bouillon $1.19

Parmesan grated cheese in can $2.79

chocolate chips $1.79

baking soda .49 cents

gallon milk $2.39

canned chili beans .55 cents

white loaf bread .79 cents

frozen pizza (like Totinos) .99 cents

I had gone through the check out line in Aldis and mom
was right behind me. I was bagging my groceries
when I had turned around to see mom putting her groceries
up on the belt to be scanned. She had a FULL cart
and had just begun putting them up. A lady behind her,
yacking away on a cell phone, puts up about 10 items
as well along with a bar.
So picture this, mom has a whole cart of
groceries she's trying to put on the belt and this
ladies items are moving along the belt also each
time the cashier scans things. The cashier told
the lady that she needed to wait to put her things
up so my mom could finish putting her groceries up.
She pauses for a moment from her cell phone and says ok.
She did nothing to remove her items from the belt
so mom could continue putting her groceries up.
Her groceries were nearing the cashier and mom
still had a cart full to put up with nowhere to put them.
It got to the point the cashier stopped the belt,
stood up from his chair and had to push this other
ladies groceries with his hands back away to give
mom space to continue with her order. He was a little
upset along with mom. I had never seen someone do this
to another shopper. It had me shaking my head
that someone would even do something like that.
So when you are in a store getting ready to check out
please wait to put your items up until the person
in front of you has put all theirs up first- DUH DUH DUH!
Use some common sense people!!

-----------------------------------------------------------

Tonight's supper already set out.

Crockpot Chili & Cornbread

Homemade Cornbread
(from recipe on aunt jemima corn meal mix)
(makes 9-10 servings)

1.5 cups milk .21 cents

1 egg, beaten .14 cents

2 Tablespoon vegetable shortening FREE

2 Tablespoons Splenda .05 cents

@ .28 cents a serving

---------------------------------------------------

11:25am

Well it's probably a good thing I didn't shop at
Save-A-Lot and use my $5 off $25 today.
I was browsing Facebook just now and saw
that Save-A-Lot has a sneak peak of a dollar sale
they might be having next week.

$1.00 Angel Soft toilet paper 4 pack

$1.00 dozen eggs

$1.00 12 ounce ground sausage roll

$1.00 10-12 ounce Malt O Meal Cereal

$1.00 Oscar Mayer lunchables 4.2 to 4.5 ounce

$1.00 Chef Boyardee pasta

I might go just to stock up on the sausage!!!!!!!!
I realize it's 4 ounces shy of a pound.
But sausage for $1.00, heck yeah!
Sausage rolls can run you $2.50 to $4 a roll at Kroger.

Oh, there was .50 cent coupons for the 4 pack Angel Soft
toilet paper in one of the coupon inserts.
So that would make the 4 packs only .50 cents each!!!

I found Malt O Meal cereal coupons $1.00 off 3.
They are for the 12.5 ounce or larger so
don't think they would work with these bags.

I think there might be Chef Boyardee coupons in one
of the coupon inserts. I didn't save mine in my
coupon binder because we are tired of eating it!

--------------------------------------------------

2:30pm

Mail Call.

Cool deal. Kroger sent me coupons for
a FREE Shick Hydro Razor 3 or 5 blade along
with a coupon for FREE Shick Hydro Shave Gel.

I'll get this and use it to make a gift basket
for Christmas along with some body wash
and deodorant or whatever I can find with coupons
and sales for one of the guys.

---------------------------------------------------

3:15pm

Got the chili going in the crock on high.
I put in the recipe to put it on low
but wanted to speed up the process because of time.
Everything was pretty much cooked before hand
so it shouldn't be a problem.

---------------------------------------------------

When grocery shopping, and after having my list checked off
and the cart full, I'll start evaluating what I have in my cart.
Do I really need the stuff I chose or can I put anything
back to reduce my grocery bill? I did that today
and find myself doing that many other times.

Today I found myself putting back a second bag of chips.
We didn't really need them. I can makes other snacks from
scratch like the black bottom cupcakes. That's why I got
a bag of chocolate chips. I also put back a large can
of tomato juice. I don't really need that. I have
cans of tomato soup I can use in its place.
And last I put back parmesan cheese. It's not a
necessity at the moment, only a treat.

----------------------------------------------------

Do you use Scott's toilet paper? The other day
I thought I would save a buck and get the Kroger
brand of Scott's. It turned out to be much thinner!
I won't be buying the Kroger brand of Scott's any more.
Most of the time store brands are just as good
as name brands. But sometimes you'll run across
a few items that aren't.

----------------------------------------------------

Sometimes you have to go without.

We've had lights flicker in our home that are
on flip switches. We replaced one switch already
in the kitchen because of it. Our hallway light
was acting the same way for the longest time.
Well yesterday it finally went out. It sucks
to have to walk down a dark hall at night
and early mornings or heck even on a cloudy day.
My pantry closet is
in the hall as well and I can't hardly see
what I'm looking for in there or to see
to put stuff away.

My truck is needing a U-Joint.
At least that's what Tony thinks it is. It's made
a couple clunk noises when putting it into
gear and yesterday was making a little racket
when I got onto a 45mph rd. Only does it when
you give it gas, not coasting. So now I drive
to and from the bus stop every day wondering
if it's going to give out til we can get it fixed.

I've already canceled my colonoscopy.
Getting ready to cancel my family doctor's
appointment on Wednesday and cancel
the gastreonologists appointment for next month.
Don't have the money to keep up with all these
doctor bills. I am feeling better and don't
feel the need to keep going to them.

Sometimes when money won't allow you to do the
things you would like you have to make
sacrifices and decided which things are more
important to fix, get or have done.
Yes it sucks but it is a way of life for many people.

Now I have decided that Tony's ear infection is
important to be seen again by a doctor.
We can't risk someone losing their hearing!
He had to cancel his Saturday appointment
because it conflicted with his work and having
the pager. Will set up another appointment
this week and keep you posted with the results
from that. He took a 5 day dose of antibiotics,
had one ear flushed out and cleaned and has
to put prescription drops in the one ear daily. While it
has seemed to improve his hearing some, now
it looks like it is spreading to the other ear.

7:50pm

Been tinkering around and doing some surveys
on the new survey site I discovered.

I like survey sites that pay you cash or
gift cards.
I do not like survey sites where you do surveys
and acquire points to be entered into contests.

Surveys range in 1 minute up to about 30 minutes
and range in pay according to how long it takes to do.

I am currently up to $5.50 with the new survey site.

I checked out some of the rewards and there are
gift cards for things like Amazon.com and
I saw that you could put your reward in your paypal account.
That would probably be the option I would choose.

---------------------------------------------------------

Woo Hoo! I just realized I got a snail mail from
Opinion Outpost, another survey site I do.
I told y'all I sent away to cash in my money
I had been saving up from surveys. Their site said it could
take 6 to 8 weeks to get so I planned ahead before
Christmas. Well I know it hasn't been a week since
sending off for it and it just came today.
That was extremely quick!

9-25-11

3:10pm

At 1:45pm me, mom and both kids went for
a free tour of the old house that sits on the
corner of Westerville & Ferris Rds.
Many people showed up for the historical
tour. It was very interesting learning about
the house that was built in 1856. The house
we've all passed by on a daily basis and
have wondered about.

The sold pamphlets about the history of
the house for $3 and I got mom and me
each one. There is so much to write about
this house that I am just not ready to
do it at this time but will be sure
to do soon for those interested in it.

I can say this, it sits on a sacred Adena Indian mound,
it is part of the underground railroad,
it used to sit on 5,000 acres, and
the owner who built it purchased the land
across the street from the old Schottensteins
distribution center to build a school house.

Here is an article they had framed in the house
about the house. Enlarge and read it for more
information.

Backside of house.

this is the cheapest brand of trash bags you can find.
I'll price them at Meijers this week.

10:00pm

Just returned home from an emergency page at
Tony's work. After, we stopped in the market
just up the road. I waited in the car and
saw something that gave me an idea.
On the door to the market it said they sold the
Columbus Dispatch. Since Tony knows the owner
and other employees on a personal level
I had the idea for Tony to ask them tomorrow
what they do with any extra Sunday papers.
If they throw them away I would like to know
if they would save them for me and give to
Tony Monday evening after work each week.
This could mean I could get the Sunday paper
for free along with any extra coupons!
Got my fingers crossed that this works out!

You to could also ask your local super markets
or any place that sells papers what they
do with the extras they don't sell and see
if you could make arrangements to pick them
up each week if they just throw them away.

Just a thought. My mind is always working overtime.

9-24-11

11:30am

Went to the flea market this morning.
The boys got a couple cheap things
and I got 2 bags of Snyder pretzels
and a bag of salsa tortilla chips for .50 cents each.
Always check expiration dates in places like
these before purchasing items, I always do.
When walking around the flea market I notice
people selling foods, toiletry and cleaning items.
I call these coupon people because I know most
of the things they sell can be bought with sales
and coupons for free or cheap.

Had to make a run to Tony's work.
My truck that I call "The Big Black Bus"
became a work truck today hauling ladders
and maintenance stuff. I love my Big Black Bus
though. It's so practical and you can haul
just about anything in it. And I like the fact
that the storage space in the back is covered
unlike a pickup. "The Bus" got a new alternator
this week and will need new brakes in the near
future as they are getting a little mushy
and maybe a universal joint.
It's been a good running and dependable vehicle for us.
The owner before us worked in a Midas repair shop
and did lots of upkeep on it and the owner before
that was the Columbus Airport where I'm sure
they kept up with all it's maintenance.
I do at times miss my Explorer though which
was better on gas. But I bet you couldn't get
a full sized couch or bed in the back of it and shut the
door, lol. It just hit 207,000 miles and still
going strong. I'd buy a Suburban again before
I would ever buy another Expedition again that's for
sure! While an Expedition is pretty to look at
it's a real bitch to try and work on yourself!
The Suburban has a 350 Vortec motor in it unlike the
Ford's Triton motor. The 350 is so easy to work
on that even a caveman can do it.

--------------------------------------------------

Yesterday evening since we were out late
we stopped in McDonalds and got the
$4.99 4 cheeseburger and fries deal.
Before leaving I grabbed a BIG handful of
napkins. Trying to cut back on expenses and
these will be used for tissues.
Hey, whatever works and is cheap or FREE!

You will usually find dented cans marked down
in the manager special area of your store.
I have two rules to follow when buying dented cans.

1. Make sure you are able to get a can opener
around one end or the other of the can to open it.

2. Press a finger into the top or bottom of
the can. If it dents easily then more than likely
the contents are no longer good. It's just like
canning. You hear the seal of the lid pop. But if
the lids stays flexible the contents will go bad if
stored on a shelf.

----------------------------------------------

Easy Homemade Chili

Ingredients

* 1 pound ground beef
I use ground turkey since it is cheaper than beef.
* 1 onion, chopped
* 1 (14.5 ounce) can stewed tomatoes
I usually find dented canned tomatoes marked down to .49 cents
* 1 (15 ounce) can tomato sauce
* 1 (15 ounce) can kidney beans
* 1 1/2 cups water
* 1 pinch chili powder
* 1 pinch garlic powder
* salt and pepper to taste

Directions

1. In a large saucepan over medium heat, combine the beef and onion and saute until meat is browned and onion is tender. Add the stewed tomatoes with juice, tomato sauce, beans and water.
2. Season with the chili powder, garlic powder, salt and ground black pepper to taste. Bring to a boil, reduce heat to low, cover and let simmer for 15 minutes.

-----------------------------------------------------------------

Crockpot Chili

2 cans of mild chili beans $1.10
(three are shown but I'll only be using 1)

1 can diced tomatoes with juice .49 cents

1 small onion diced .10 cents

2 cans tomato soup FREE

Water

Directions-

Fry turkey in skillet til done.
In crock pot add the turkey and all
the above ingredients. Add enough
water to your liking. Cook for 2-3 hours
on low.

Homemade Cornbread
(from recipe on aunt jemima corn meal mix)
(makes 9-10 servings)

2 cups cornmeal mix .18 cents

1.5 cups milk .21 cents

1 egg, beaten .14 cents

2 Tablespoon vegetable shortening, melted FREE

2 Tablespoons Splenda .05 cents

Grease 9" x9" casserole dish.
Combine dry ingredients. Add milk & egg, mix until blended.
Add melted shortening; mix well. Pour into warmed
casserole dish. Bake 20-25 minutes at 425 degrees.

Total cost of Chili and Cornbread $1.72
I'm going to guess and say the chili will make 6 servings
@ .28 cents a serving
